Just because they have some knowledge (but not a perfect knowledge) does not mean that they abandon faith. Alma noted that their faith was dormant in that thing. Where faith returns to a critical forefront is when new understanding is required. Alma tells them here that they will still need faith because the process has only begun. They will know that the seed is good, but now they must give place to more of the word. The plant must become larger.
