“If Ye Have Faith Ye Hope for Things Which Are Not Seen, Which Are True”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

This statement, in its entirety (all of verse 21), serves as a defining formula that succinctly captures the essence of the first principle of the gospel. It is a corollary to what Paul would write around a century later: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). What do Saints of God do as they prayerfully ponder the steps they should take? Seek to gain and exercise faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the beginning of all wisdom.
