“Blessed Are They Who Humble Themselves Without Being Compelled to Be Humble”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Alma draws a distinction between one who is humble by choice, and one who may be forced by circumstances into humility of heart. The one may be blessed by bending himself to any righteous demands made of him, but not so greatly, Alma says, as one will be who receives the Word of God with gladness, and complies with its injunctions "without stubbornness of heart." Such a man accepts a Gospel requirement without it being proved to him that to comply with it is the will of the Lord.
