Zoramite troubles were rooted in pride, which led to elitism and worldliness. Literally as well as symbolically the Zoramites were a people high and lifted up. They engaged in vain, empty repetitions (Matthew 6:7); they worshipped once a week—truly a religion of convenience; and their hearts were set so much upon the things of the world that they claimed riches to be the mark of favor with God.
