“Thou Hast Had Signs Enough; Will Ye Tempt Your God?”

Brant Gardner

Alma tells Korihor that he “has had signs enough.” Korihor is not without witness from Yahweh, he is simply without the Spirit to believe them. The conflict between faithful Alma and faithless Korihor is presented as one of contrasting testimonies. Alma says yes. Korihor says no. Since the discussion is about things of religion and the Spirit, there is no proof available that Korihor will accept, and he demands proof in full assurance that Alma will not or cannot provide it. When Alma refuses to make the spiritual physical (likely the outcome Korihor expects), Korihor can then maintain that Alma refused because the spiritual is not real.
