“Alma Asks Korihor for Evidence”

Monte S. Nyman

Alma had earlier resigned the judgment seat to go among his people and “pull down, by the word of God, all the pride and craftiness and all the contentions … seeing no way that he might reclaim them save it were in bearing down in pure testimony against them” (Alma 4:18–19). He now uses the same method to silence Korihor. Korihor’s pride led him to say there is no God, as will be shown later (see Alma 30:53). He had no evidence (v. 40). Alma’s testimony was pure because it was given him by the Spirit. The evidence of which he speaks (v. 41) will also be given later (see v. 44). The Spirit also told him that Korihor was possessed of a lying spirit, and under the power of the devil (v. 42). Korihor later confesses he knew the things that Alma said he knew (v. 53).
