“A Law Which Should Bring Men on to Unequal Grounds”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
That is, the Lord and his servants had forbidden discrimination according to belief. The Lord desires that all his children in all ages accept the gospel and affiliate themselves with his true Church. He will not bring this to pass, however, through pressure or unrighteous dominion of any kind. The Nephite society, though theocratic in nature, did not require nonmembers of the Church to accept purely gospel laws (except as those pertained to behavior and life in society), nor did it make it disadvantageous in society to remain outside the faith.
