“Continual Peace Established in the Land”

Monte S. Nyman

Alma chapter 30 begins in the sixteenth year of the reign of the judges. The missionaries have returned from teaching the gospel to the Lamanites in the land of Nephi. The converted Lamanites who left the land of Nephi have been established in the land of Jershon, a part of the land of Zarahemla. The aftermath of the war with the Lamanites was being overcome and peace was again established. The people were striving to live the law of Moses in preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Their continued peace was short-lived. While the external threats had been overcome, there came an internal threat from a man named Korihor in the latter end of the seventeenth year of the reign of the judges.

Precept of this Chapter:

And thus we see the end of him who perverteth the ways of the Lord; and thus we see that the devil will not support his children at the last day, but doth speedily drag them down to hell. [Alma 30:60]

The widespread effect of Korihor is shown in the following chapters. This chapter will focus on his teachings and the personal effect they had upon Korihor himself. An outline of Alma 30 follows, as a preparation for a deeper study.
