“Death Was Swallowed Up to Them by the Victory of Christ Over It”

Brant Gardner

Redaction: Mormon concludes the story of this people by summarizing again the depth of their faith, which was stronger than the fear of death. Verse 28 confirms that this is Mormon’s summary, not that of the source plate, for the mention of “they never could be prevailed upon… and they never did look upon… ” requires a longer time frame that their mere establishment in Jershon.

I repeat that this pacifism was limited to a single generation. It did not apply to their youngest children, and the rest of the Book of Mormon contains no suggestion that others took a similar type of oath and therefore required defense.

Text: There is no chapter break here in the 1830 edition.
