“They Suffered Themselves to Be Slain According to the Desires of Their Enemies”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Notwithstanding what appeared to mean sure death in so doing, the Christian Lamanites refused again to use their implements of war even in defending themselves. Their almost passionate determination not to shed the blood of their fellow men stiffened the resolve they had made when they buried their swords deep in the earth (Alma 24:12-18). "They suffered themselves to be slain according to the desires of their enemies."
