“Whose Days Have Been Spent in the Grossest Iniquity”

Brant Gardner

Ammon’s reminiscence in verse 23 gives us a little information about their departure that does not appear in Mosiah 27:22–26. The Nephites hated the Lamanites; few thought that the mission to the Lamanites was a good idea—not simply because the mission would be dangerous and difficult but because the Lamanites were deemed unworthy: their “days have been spent in the grossest iniquity.” The feeling against the Lamanites was so great that many Nephites would rather fight them than preach to them.
