“I Know That I Am Nothing”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

“I know that I am nothing”—think back on the crucial counsel of the prophet-king Benjamin to remember “your own nothingness” (Mosiah 4:11). See commentary at Mosiah 4:5, 11.

Regarding the phrase “as to my strength I am weak,” one Brigham Young University football player was six feet eight and weighed 335 pounds. His tenacity while hitting the opposing players and while hitting the books was admirable. Someone who has both physical and spiritual strength can be particularly useful in the Lord’s kingdom. Samson had the potential, but he betrayed his Coach, and he failed his courses. This football player had the potential, and was doing all he could to be a winner.
