“The Lamanites Became a Righteous People”

Monte S. Nyman

Again the Lord is working to bring salvation to his people (see Alma 24:27 above). Many more of the Lamanites become converted and join the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi when they see they cannot overpower the Nephites (Alma 25:13–14).

The keeping of the outward ordinances of the law of Moses is not specified. We assume it included only those parts of the Law that were types and shadows of the coming of Christ, as implied (v. 15). We further assume it did not include the “carnal ordinances imposed on them until the time of the reformation” (Hebrew 9:10) since the Nephites had been brought to believe in Christ and the Law had become dead unto them (see 2 Nephi 25:24–27). They understood the purposes of the law and had faith in the spirit of prophecy, or the testimony of Jesus’ coming (Alma 25:16).
