“They Become More Hardened”

Brant Gardner

Here is Mormon’s final moral. The Amalekites and Amulonites were Nephites who had apostatized into the order of the Nehors. Mormon emphasizes that none of the converts came from these apostate groups. That detail—that apostates are more hardened than those who were never converted—becomes the foundation for his conclusion in verse 30.

Text: There is no chapter break in the 1830 edition. Despite the homily, which feels like a conclusion, the story is not over.
