The foremost enemies of the new Christians turned out to be those who had formerly been Nephite Christians but had apostatized. Among the Amalekites only one precious person was converted by the missionaaries. Among the Amulonites none were converted. Furthermore, these apostate Nephites who had joined the Lamanites were primarily disciples of Nehor who denied the coming of Christ and who believed that all mankind would be automatically saved so there was no need for faith, repentance or baptism.
