The proclamation mentioned in Alma 22:27 is described. Religious freedom was proclaimed. “And thousands were brought to the knowledge of the Lord”—as in all of the Americas in recent decades. The ancient Lamanites who were brought to the knowledge of the truth through the spirit of revelation and prophecy experienced the power of God working miracles in them; that is, their hearts were changed and they were truly converted, and they never did fall away. Being converted in that manner there wasno problem with retention (see also commentary at Alma 27:27).
