“His Servants Ran and Told the Queen—wife of the Father of Lamoni”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

The king’s heart has already been softened by the love that Aaron’s brother, Ammon, has shown his son, King Lamoni (see Alma 20:26). Therefore, the king is receptive to Aaron’s message and is overcome by the Spirit. However, the queen mistakes this spiritual rapture for death and orders her servants to slay Aaron and his companions as murderers. As it turns out, she too is reconciled to the mighty changes taking place in her family circle and soon becomes a central part of the movement. The queen’s people will be the parents of the future courageous stripling warriors of Helaman, who will report: “Yea, and they [the stripling warriors] did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness; yea, and even according to their faith it was done unto them; and I did remember the words which they said unto me that their mothers had taught them” (Alma 57:21).
