“I Will Give Up All That I Possess That I May Receive This Great Joy”

Brant Gardner

This is the pivotal verse in one of the most powerful conversion stories in the Book of Mormon. This king had exhibited such hatred toward Ammon that he attempted to kill him for little more than being a Nephite. This king had acquiesced to freeing Aaron and his brethren as a condition to save his own life. He knew so little of Yahweh that he had to ask if Yahweh was the same entity as the Great Spirit. But this very man, touched by the Spirit testifying to Aaron’s words, has now glimpsed Yahweh’s “great joy” through the Aaron’s words.
