“They Were Zealous for Keeping the Commandments of God”

Brant Gardner

Text: This has been Ammon’s story and Mormon must end it before beginning Aaron’s tale. This quick narrative summarizes the basic facts. The 1830 text, however, does not have a chapter break at this point, since it is about the broader missionary effort, not just Ammon’s. While we find it logical to break these stories into chapters according to the individual protagonists, Mormon did not. Perhaps his source had already combined Ammon’s and Aaron’s accounts, and Mormon was repeating that combination.
