Notwithstanding that the labors of Aaron and of the missionaries here met with a greater degree of success than did their efforts elsewhere, the wicked among the people of Middoni soon raised a cry against them. Some, including Aaron, of the brethren, were cast into prison. Their companions fled into the regions around about. In prison they were treated with great cruelty; they were bound with strong cords which cut into their flesh; they were deprived of proper food, drink, and clothing. In addition to all this the missionaries suffered nameless afflictions.
