“Aaron Muloki and Ammah Are Cast into Prison”

Monte S. Nyman

The village of Ani-Anti (v. 11) is mentioned only this once in the Book of Mormon. Nor are Aaron’s companions Muloki and Ammah mentioned after this account. The text implies that these were the only three who were imprisoned. We will hear later of the others who fled (v. 13). The three who were imprisoned (v. 14) ties us back to the account where Ammon was able, with the help of King Lamoni, to get them free from prison (see Alma 20:28–30). Verses 15–17 provide a general summary of the work of these three after they were delivered. They seemed to follow the pattern as before, going to the Amalekites and then to the Lamanites (Alma 21:16). Those who were brought to the truth were almost all Lamanites, as we shall see in Alma 23:14. The missionaries were beginning to find success in what they had set out to do—bring many to the knowledge of the truth, convince many of their sins, and help many see the incorrectness of the traditions of their fathers (Alma 21:17, compare Mosiah 28:2).
