“The Amalekites are mentioned for the first time in Alma 21:2; the exact source of their name is never made clear in the Book of Mormon. The Amulonites mentioned here are the descendants and the followers of Amulon, the wicked priest of King Noah (Mosiah 23:31–35; Mosiah 24:3–4). Both of these groups of people believed in the ‘order of the Nehors’ (Alma 21:4; read also Alma 1:2–6, 15–16), and they were so hardened in wickedness that only one Amalekite and no Amulonites were converted by the four sons of Mosiah and their companions (Alma 23:14)” (Ludlow, Companion to Your Study of the Book of Mormon, 208).
