Culture: The description of the prisoners matches depictions of captives from Maya stelae and glyphs quite well. Captives are typically shown naked and typically abused and tortured. (See commentary accompanying Alma 14:21–22.) Thus, this particular description, with “all kinds of afflictions” rings true in the Mesoamerican context.
