What is the ultimate source of conversion for those who will hear the message?

Thomas R. Valletta

“Those who experience the mighty change in their hearts are converted by hearing the word of God when it is accompanied by a witness of the Holy Ghost. Some … may conclude that it was the miraculous show of power that gave Lamoni’s people … their testimonies. We misunderstand the faith of these people and the power of the word of God if that is what we conclude. Alma the Younger and Lamoni had similar miraculous spiritual awakenings. Alma bore witness that it was the Holy Spirit who gave him his testimony, not the angel. (Alma 5:45–46.) Those born of God do not require miracles for conversion but respond to the teachings of the Spirit. (Alma 19:35–36.)” (Fronk, “Show Forth Good Examples in Me,” 333).
