While attempting to establish common ground, Ammon also recounts the sacred story of the Lehites, clearly from a Nephite perspective. Perhaps at least that much remained of Ishmael’s lineage history even if an understanding of the Israelite God had been lost. In any case, Ammon established a connection by lineage to the Lamanites and a connection from Yahweh to the Lamanites. Ammon thus creates a short distance for Lamoni’s understanding to travel.
