Mormon here reports what Ammon told Alma long after the fact. Obviously it was also only Ammon’s conclusion, not his complete thoughts. Logically, Ammon must have received some indication from the Spirit that he could turn this event to an advantage with Lamoni, for the situation does not look promising on its face. Nothing about Ammon suggests that his physical prowess was so great that he would invite a fight.
