“The People of Ammonihah Were Destroyed”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Only a year after Alma and Amulek proclaim the Lord’s ultimatum to the people of Ammonihah (spoken around 82 b.c.; see Alma 8:16; 9:24), the great city of wickedness is destroyed by the invading Lamanite hordes: “But behold, in one day it was left desolate; and the carcasses were mangled by dogs and wild bests of the wilderness” (Alma 16:10). So great is the stench of death in that vicinity that it is left desolate for many years, being referred to as “Desolation of Nehors; for they were of the profession of Nehor” (Alma 16:11). Alma and Amulek continue with their ministry, establishing the Church throughout the land, bringing many souls unto Christ, and preparing them for the prophesied coming of the Lord to their land following His resurrection.
