“Alma Took Amulek to His Own House”

Brant Gardner

Verse 18 is the logical response to Amulek’s homelessness. Alma takes him “to his own house” and ministers to him as a friend and brother. Mormon would have been particularly sensitive to the disorientation caused by homelessness, due to the chaos of his own times, so he concludes this important story by showing that the faithful disciple whose testimony reaved him of his support network found a new one in Alma and the gospel. So, too, do many modern Saints find themselves bereft of their former social supports but find replacements for them in the gospel family.
