“Zeezrom Leaped Upon His Feet, and Began to Walk”

The detail that Zeezrom “leaps” to his feet tells us that he did not gradually improve; rather, he was immediately healed. Given the limited medical resources of ancient world, many more sicknesses resulted in death than in recovery, and a “burning” fever like Zeezrom’s might have been a death sentence. In contrast to this dire expectation, Zeezrom “leaps” to his feet. No wonder the story is told abroad.

Variant:The printer’s manuscript and the 1830 edition begin verse 11 with: “And it came to pass that.… ”
