It is interesting that the physical abuse appears to be ritualized at least to the point that each person not only participates, but repeats the same words.

Alma, who was silent against accusations, now speaks. Yahweh blesses them with strength right at the time when they should have been most physically debilitated. He gives these starved, dehydrated, naked men the strength to snap their bonds. The contrast to the expected physical weakness clearly shows this to be a miracle just as the lawyers and judges had so recently mockingly requested (v. 24). Now that they have it, they still will not believe.
