“That Ye Would Hearken Unto My Words”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

As Alma concludes his preachment he follows the pattern of the prophets and seals with testimony that which he has taught. His has been the voice of warning, a call to repentance, an appeal to live worthy of the Holy Spirit, an entreaty to his listeners to have faith in Christ and the hope of eternal life.

His emphasis is on the need for humility, watchfulness, and constant prayer; his stress is on meekness, submissiveness, patience, love, and long-suffering, combined to dispel any idea that salvation is available for anything less than the labor of a lifetime. To be born again is generally a process, not an event.
