“Now They Were Ordained After This Manner”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

The declaration of the preceding verses is now summarized. To hold the priesthood one must be called of God (it is not a matter of self-choice); righteousness is a prerequisite to its conferral; and it must be conveyed according to the order of the Church (i.e., by the laying on of hands). Thus, all who receive the priesthood must receive it in the same manner as Christ received it and are to be types or witnesses of him, sharing a power which is as endless as God himself.
