Alma has now described a situation that is not permanently acceptable to God. We have man who must die, and suffer the temporal death. We also have a sinful man who is in a probationary state. However, he is a sinful man in that state, and Alma has just spoken of the fate of the unrepentant. Therefore, God has a situation that should not be, one in which there is no good result. The result at this point is simply temporal death, and ultimately, spiritual death.
