“Prepare to Meet God”

Jana Reiss

To Mormons, the great purpose of life is to “prepare to meet God,” which is accomplished through exercising faith in Jesus Christ and in following God’s commandments. This life is considered a “probationary state,” or testing ground, to prepare individuals for an exalted heavenly afterlife with God. In Mormon theology, that state of permanent paradise occurs after souls have congregated in the spirit world and then been judged at the day of resurrection.
