“As Though He Had Authority to Command God”

Brant Gardner

Rhetoric: Zeezrom focuses on Amulek’s two admissions that Zeezrom considers so outrageous to the Ammonihahites that they will agree that Amulek should be detained. First, he contrasts the belief in one God with Amulek’s admission that there is a Son of God, which constitutes multiple gods. (He spells out his reasoning in verse 38.) Therefore, Amulek has contradicted himself.

The second accusation is that Amulek, who claims that the Son of God is the “coming one,” denies that he is coming to save men in our sins. Zeezrom asserts that Amulek is illogically claiming belief in an Atoning Messiah who doesn’t atone.
