The true source of the people’s reviling against Amulek is now recorded. The lawyers had put those answers to Amulek’s warnings into the hearts of the people (v. 30). The “ spin tactic” so prevalent in the 1990’s—if you cannot defend yourselves, turn the accusations against the accuser—is a very old trick. Amulek had rightly identified the devil as the source of the problems in Ammonihah. The lawyers had turned the people to believe that Alma and Amulek were the devil’s children (v. 28).
We will discuss Zeezrom (v. 31) later on. The sole object of these lawyers if Ammonihah is to get gain. However, we must assume that there may have been other lawyers who did not have that objective, if not in Ammonihah in other cities in the land of Zarahemla. The law profession is an honorable profession when honesty and proper guidelines are followed.
