“He Has Reviled Against Our Lawyers, and Our Judges”

Brant Gardner

Amulek’s insistence upon blaming the lawyers is like throwing gasoline on a fire. The people, already angry with him, are further stirred up when he repeats the very issue that had initially caused their anger.

Redaction: The editorial insertions tell us that Mormon (or the original redactor) is giving a condensed version of what happened.

Variant: Scribe 2 of the printer’s manuscript appears to have left out a word that Oliver Cowdery corrected before the manuscript went to the printer. The uncorrected printer’s manuscript read “he says that he has not spoken it.” Oliver supplied the missing “not spoken against it,” which parallels “spoken against our law” in the previous sentence and was undoubtedly on the original.
