“Why Hath Satan Got Such Great Hold Upon Your Hearts?”

Brant Gardner

Amulek now accuses the people themselves of being under Satan’s influence. Their solidarity with the lawyers means that the misdeeds of the lawyers also apply to them.

This process is not limited to the ancient world. Any number of people have grown up with ways of believing and thinking so firmly entrenched that they cannot change. Their worldview gives certain explanations of how things work. Suggestions that the world might work in a different way makes them afraid and angry. The anger is correlated to the new idea’s danger to their current worldview. The greater the threat the greater the anger.
