Not surprisingly, the Ammonihahites resented Alma’s unflattering depiction of them. They were probably more used to public praise than public calls to repentance. As a result, they were angry and attempted to take Alma to prison. Alma does not describe what prevented them except to say it was Yahweh’s interposition. Yahweh certainly prevented it because he wanted Amulek to speak.
