Alma 9:23 Textual Variants

Here the 1852 LDS edition removed the second of the two repeated that ’s from this sentence. This use of the repeated that is common in spoken English as well as in the Book of Mormon. Some instances of the repeated that have been edited out of the text (see the discussion under 1 Nephi 10:2–3), but many have been left in. Here in Alma 9:23, the critical text will restore the second repeated that, the one that was removed in the 1852 edition.
