Rhetoric: Alma again uses the image of the path, stressing that walking on it means following the gospel. It is an apt metaphor for the gospel, because walking implies movement and action, both of which are required of those who accept the gospel. The gospel is not a concept to be intellectually assimilated, but a way of life, an exercise of the soul that transforms the natural man into the godly man.
