“Of What Fold Are Ye?”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

You are the sheep of someone’s fold. There are two shepherds out in the wilderness of this world: the Good Shepherd and the evil shepherd. Both are calling you. Whomever you listen to will determine whose fold you will be gathered into and whose family you will eternally become a part of. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland quoted C. S. Lewis, a great Christian writer: “There is no neutral ground in the universe: every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan.” 4 Then Elder Holland testified, “I believe that to be absolutely true.” 5 You can become a child of Christ, as King Benjamin taught (Mosiah 5:7), or you can become a child of the devil, as Alma here warned.

In verse 40 Alma gave us a test we can apply to ourselves to determine whom we are serving. “Good” is that which brings us closer to Christ and to conversion to the fulness of his gospel. “And there are none that doeth good except those who are ready to receive the fulness of my gospel, which I have sent forth unto this generation” (D&C 35:12).
