“Wages of Him Whom He Listeth to Obey”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

See Alma 5:42. All people will eventually be justly dealt with and receive a reward commensurate with their faithfulness.

They will inhabit a place hereafter which has been prepared by their Master, a world and a kingdom suited to the deeds done in the body and the desires of the heart. The righteous receive from the Lord Jesus the blessing of eternal life.

The wicked receive little of what they were promised in life by their benighted master, for “the devil will not support his children at the last day, but cloth speedily drag them down to hell” (Alma 30:60). Peter taught that “of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage” (2 Peter 2:19).

Paul likewise explained that “to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness” (Romans 6:16).
