This brief summary of the fifth year of Alma’s reign gives another precept to bring our lives closer to God (vv. 26–27). Our eternal blessings or our eternal cursings are self-determined. A church marquee once read: “Wanted workers for the Lord; the wages are minimal but the benefits are out of this world.” On the other hand, the comforts of this world may come from following Satan, with the consequences being eternal misery.
