In the previous chapter we discussed the war which the Nephites were compelled to fight against the combined forces of the Amlicites and Lamanites. The ferocity of this conflict was so great that the whole face of the land was strewn with the dead.
This was a pitiful situation. Thousands of the faithful Nephites had been slain and the bodies of dead from this genocidal war were too numerous to count.
