It is interesting that the members of the apostate church knew they were teaching lies. But they got around it by pretending these were just their "beliefs." The law did not allow anyone to be punished for his beliefs. This twisting of the law to cover up lies is a common practice in modern times. Certain attorneys, politicians or members of the press who are paid high fees to twist the truth or twist the plain meaning of the law are sometime call spinmasters.
