“Admonishing Him with the Words of God”

The man who stands up to Nehor is none other than Gideon, the same strong, righteous defender of truth who rose up in opposition to the abuses of wicked King Noah around 145 b.c. and subsequently devised a successful plan to liberate the people of Limhi from Lamanite bondage. Now he again rises in courage to defy the assaults of Nehor. In this capacity, Gideon gives his life in defending the truth, for he is unable—“being stricken with many years” (Alma 1:9)—to withstand the blows inflicted upon him by Nehor.
