Redaction: Curiously, at this point Mormons stops quoting and begins summarizing. He has copied much longer texts before (e.g., Abinadi’s defense before the priests). Perhaps Mormon felt that this much of the quotation has established the essential points and that to say more was not essential. Mormon is very interested in people’s faith, so he may have included this text because it was clearly important—but not essential to Mormon’s main thesis. But he simply does not explain his decision.
