“He Will Visit You with Great Destruction”

Brant Gardner

Using the voice of the people as the immediate measure of their actions does not mean that Yahweh no longer has a relationship to the people. Should their collective voice becomes contrary to his will, Yahweh will reassert himself by visiting “great destruction” upon them. The result of that great destruction is not mentioned, but presumably it would remove enough of the people that the righteous might once again dominate.
