“You Were Chosen by the People, Therefore This Shall Ye Observe and Make It Your Law—to Do Your Business by the Voice of the People”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

This passage of scripture resonates well with the modern-day reader who lives in an age when democratic principles upholding the inalienable rights of the people are constantly under barrage from those who would subvert agency and the right to choose. Righteous government is based on eternal principles (compare D&C 134). There is wisdom in elevating wise and righteous people to positions of leadership according to the voice of the people, for the majority of the people commonly desires that which is right; therefore, it is prudent “to do your business by the voice of the people” (Mosiah 29:26).
